The Idea Behind the Design
The brief was to create a cultural poster exploring the relationship between identity, heritage, and legacy. I wanted to create something that felt expressive and rooted in culture, while still allowing room for experimentation with colour, texture, and composition. I had in mind wanting to incorporate African (Koi-San) and Mexican (Aztecs) elements to the design
The concept was built around the idea that culture is something we inherit, experience, and carry forward. The central figure represents the individual within a larger cultural history, while the surrounding patterns and textures suggest the layers of stories, traditions, and experiences that shape identity.
The Final Outcome
The final poster combines bold typography, textured imagery, and cultural elements to communicate a sense of identity and heritage. The layered composition creates depth while keeping the title and central figure as the main focal points.
This project helped me explore how culture can be communicated through visual language and strengthened my approach to typography, composition, texture, and colour. If I were to develop the project further, I would explore additional compositions and experiment with how the cultural elements could be developed into a broader visual identity
