Brief to Launch
Chronicle of Georgia is a poster series inspired by a fellow creative whom suggested creating a design about a monument. I chose, Chronicle of Georgia, for it's monumental architecture, which I found appealing and its cultural significance.
The brief was to create a visual interpretation of the monument that communicates its historical and cultural identity through contemporary design. The design direction needed to balance heritage and modernity, using typography, imagery, and texture to create a poster that feels expressive while remaining clear and readable.
Visual Direction
Three concepts were developed, to explore different approaches to communicate the monument's identity:
Concept 01 — Editorial / Heritage: A refined composition combining classical typography, Georgian symbolism, and architectural imagery.
Concept 02 — Brutalist / Contemporary: A brutalist approach that combines monumental imagery with a bold typographic type.
Concept 03 — Archival / Monumental: A more atmospheric direction using sepia tones, distressed textures, and an archival visual language
Concept 02 was selected, for its strong typographic impact, clear hierarchy, and ability to balance historical imagery with a contemporary visual identity
Final Outcome
The final poster presents Chronicle of Georgia through the balance of a historical reference and contemporary graphic design. Combining bold typography, architectural imagery, and a restrained colour palette to create a visual identity inspired by the Monument.
The large-scale typography creates a strong focal point, while the monument provides a sense of historical depth. The use of red, cream, and dark neutral tones helps connect the design to its cultural subject while giving the poster distinctive contemporary character.
The project demonstrates how a cultural subject can be reinterpreted through typography, composition, and visual storytelling while maintaining a connection to its original identity through different aesthetics/styles.
